Continuous Improvement of Our Schools
Falls Church has good schools, but there is always room for improvement. There are many models for continuous improvement, but it does not just happen by itself. The most critical role of a school board is not to approve contracts for frozen pizza- it is to set standards and measure results in connection with the improvement process (for more information about the role of a great school board, check out the National School Boards Association Site at www.nsba.org). Ron was involved in the continuous improvement process in Maryland when he served on the school board, and he has spoken about the process at programs produced by the Maryland Association of Boards of Education. Ron was part of the team that worked with the community and drafted a shared vision statement, specific goals and measurements, and a mission for the school board and the school system. In Falls Church, participated in the focus groups that the School Board used to help develop a new strategic plan. Click here for Ron's views on how to use strategic planning to improve our schools.
