A formula for continuous improvement:Vision, Goals, Measurement
The following information describes a continuous improvement model. Falls Church needs to articulate its own substantive vision, goals, and measurements, but the process is the same: FCCPS has a mission statement- The Falls Church City Public Schools, in partnership with our families and community, educates and challenges every student to succeed and become a responsible and contributing member of the global community. A missions statement is nice, but Ron believes a strong continuous improvement model requires a clear vision of what we want to achieve, then we decide how to get there. Real, long term improvement is achieved by setting a clear vision for what we want our system to look like, then adopting measurable goals. Based on how well we are achieving these goals, we then allocate resources to make sure the whole system is aligned with the goals. We make much more progress when we all row in the same direction. For example, click here to see the complete Vision Statement that Ron helped develop in another community. This statement describes what the public wanted the school system to look like there. People in Falls Church talk about wanting "good schools," and "excellence," but we need to get more specific! The second step is setting measurable goals. Click here to see an example of goals that Ron helped develop. Again, Falls Church is different, but we still need to specify quantifiable goals.
